Welcome to Year 6! As the leaders of the primary school, this final year is an exciting milestone filled with growing independence, memorable experiences and preparation for the big step to secondary school.

Year 6 is about working hard, supporting one another and leaving a positive legacy at our school before taking the next big step.

What to Expect in Year 6

Leadership & Responsibility: Year 6 pupils step into key school roles - from house captains and prefects to playground leaders - setting a positive example for the rest of the school.
Academic Achievement: We focus on deepening critical thinking, mastering key skills across the curriculum and preparing with confidence for end-of-year assessments (SATs).
Secondary Transition: Throughout the year, we work closely with local secondary schools to ensure a smooth, confident and worry-free transition for every child.
Unforgettable Memories: From special year-end events and creative projects to the highly anticipated residential trip, Year 6 is packed with moments to celebrate.

SATs & Secondary School Preparation

Year 6 is an important milestone year, but our primary focus is ensuring pupils feel confident, supported and proud of their efforts without unnecessary pressure.

National Curriculum Tests (SATs): Taking place in May, SATs measure progress in reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and mathematics. We prepare children thoroughly in class through routine teaching and gentle practice, making the test week feel familiar, calm and low-stress.
Continuous Teacher Assessment: Writing and science are assessed through your child's everyday classwork across the year, giving a full and fair reflection of their capabilities.
Secondary Transition Program: Throughout the year, we work closely with local secondary schools to coordinate visits, welcome guest teachers and facilitate transition workshops. We focus heavily on building independence, travel safety, time management and emotional readiness.
Maintaining Balance: While academic achievement is important, Year 6 remains full of creative projects, sports, roles of responsibility and memorable end-of-year celebrations to ensure a rich and happy final year of primary school.

SATs are simply a snapshot of one week in May - they do not measure how creative, kind or brilliant your child is. We aim to help every pupil do their best while keeping learning enjoyable and balanced.
