Year 3 - Hawking 2026 - 2027
Miss Cuthbert
Welcome to Year 3! This year marks a huge milestone as the children take their first steps into Key Stage 2, building greater independence, discovering new interests and growing in confidence. In Year 3, every day is a chance to try something new, ask big questions and support each other as we step into Key Stage 2.
What to Expect in Year 3
-
Stepping Into KS2: Children transition into Key Stage 2 with a focus on developing self-reliance, organisational skills and a growth mindset.
-
Curiosity & Discovery: Our curriculum expands with exciting new subjects, hands-on science experiments and immersive history and geography topics.
-
Core Skill Mastery: We place a strong focus on deepening reading comprehension, mastering times tables and developing creative writing styles.
-
Enrichment & Trips: Learning comes alive through hands-on workshops, local visits and collaborative class projects designed to inspire curiosity.
Stepping Up to Key Stage 2: A Note for Parents
Moving from Year 2 into Year 3 is an exciting step as children enter Key Stage 2. While this transition brings a few new routines and expectations, our priority is making sure every child feels confident, happy and supported as they settle in.
-
Fostering Independence: Children are encouraged to take small steps toward greater self-reliance—such as looking after their own belongings, organising their school bags and managing their classroom equipment.
-
A Fresh Classroom Structure: The school day remains balanced and engaging, but lessons gradually move toward more sustained focus and collaborative group work.
-
New Opportunities: KS2 opens up new activities, including specialised subject teaching, whole-school responsibilities and exciting curriculum-linked trips.
-
How You Can Help at Home: Encouraging your child to pack their own bag, reading together daily and practicing times tables are great ways to build independence together.
