Year 4 - Parks 2026 - 2027
Miss Johnston
Welcome to Year 4! As children settle into Key Stage 2, this dynamic year is all about expanding critical thinking, taking ownership of their learning and discovering new talents. Year 4 is about embracing new challenges, believing in your abilities and mastering key skills with a smile.
What to Expect in Year 4
-
Expanding Academic Horizons: Children tackle more complex problem-solving, deepen creative writing and engage in rich topic-based humanities projects.
-
Hands-on Discovery: Science and practical investigations spark critical inquiry, teaching pupils how to hypothesise, test and analyse results.
-
Teamwork & Collaboration: Group work and class discussions encourage children to share ideas, respect diverse viewpoints and solve problems together.
-
Enriching Curriculum Trips: Topics come to life through engaging day trips, a Year 4 residential, visitor workshops and immersive learning experiences.
Multiplication Tables Check (MTC): A Note for Parents
In June, Year 4 pupils take part in the national Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) to evaluate their fluency in times tables up to 12 x 12.
-
A Low-Stress Assessment: The check is an online, short test containing 25 questions. It is completed individually on a tablet or computer in a calm classroom setting.
-
Why Times Tables Matter: Rapid recall of multiplication facts forms the essential foundation for fractions, division and complex problem-solving in upper Key Stage 2.
-
How We Support in Class: We embed fun times-table games, daily practice and regular song routines into our weekly schedule so the check feels routine and achievable.
-
How to Help at Home: Short, frequent sessions on times-table apps or quick spoken quizzes at home make a huge difference in building speed and confidence.
