The children are at the heart of our curriculum and we believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop and build their self-esteem and self-confidence. As a result, we encourage our children to have high aspirations and achieve their best. We want them to be responsible and effective by the time they move onto the next phase of their education.
All our pupils have access to the full 2014 National Curriculum, differentiated to take into account individual learning needs. We reviewed our curriculum to ensure that key skills, knowledge and understanding are included. We have developed a creative, cross-curricular curriculum that motivates children whilst ensuring a broad and balanced range of study and you can read our overarching curriculum objectives here.
Although based on the requirements of the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, we ensure that there is flexibility to adapt the planning according to the interests and learning needs of our learners. Each year group has a main topic and as much of the learning as possible is linked to this topic, making it relevant and meaningful to our children as well as reinforcing learning across subjects. We use a number of different approaches to explore and deliver the topics to enable the children to develop the skills they need to be confident and successful learners. The children are involved in the planning stage of new topics as we value their ideas and contributions and believe that they learn best when they are able to steer and direct their own learning. We want our children to be inquisitive and passionate about their learning and spark a desire for life long learning. Above all, we are committed to providing our pupils with a learning experience which stimulates and inspires them whilst preparing them for life outside school. We aim to develop lifelong learners, hungry for knowledge and understanding, and skilled in transferring learning skills into a wide range of areas. Above all we want them to look back on their time at Cheadle Heath Primary School as a happy and magical time!
