This year (2019/20) we have been given the fantastic opportunity to be part of the Active Families project which is supported by the Parental Engagement Network (PEN) and fully funded by Sport England. The sessions run weekly after school and are for the whole family to attend. This can include older and younger siblings who do not currently attend Cheadle Heath Primary School.
What is the Active Families Project?
Active Families is a new programme aiming to get families more physically active together through fun, cheap (free) and convenient activities at school, at home and in the community. It is lead in school by Mrs Hulbert.
The project consists of:
This is block of six sessions of fun activities for the whole family held directly after school on a Friday (3.15 – 4.30pm) with spaces for up to ten families. In these sessions you will be given the opportunity to explore different resources which you can then take away with you to continue to use at home. The activities include hoops, football, beanbags, skipping ropes and balloons. Families who participate in these sessions will have the opportunity to earn their Bronze Award.
Following these sessions the families will also be given activities or challenges to do together at home to try and increase their regular daily activity levels. Each family will receive their own set of the equipment used during the sessions.
As part of a Silver Award families are then encouraged to access other opportunities and facilities in the community in the evenings and weekends (e.g. swimming, cycling, badminton, activities in parks etc.) Families who show that they had sustained increased activity over several terms would then get a Gold Award.
